Wild Horses

Have you ever remembered something you completely forgot about? Usually these hidden memories are brought back to life by sights or smells, but with me sounds bring back things more than anything else. Today I was listening to my mp3 player and I turned on the Rolling Stones. When "Wild Horses" came on and it hit me so hard. Not any memory in particular, just my dad in general. Riding in his truck with the windows down, picking flowers in the La Plata mountains, throwing snowballs... just all those things I won't be able to do soon. It's incredible how a number can end and begin your life at the same time. Eighteen... It was the age I always wanted to be. When I was young I would dream of the day I could tell my parents to kiss off and just do whatever I want to do. But now that's it's almost here, I regret not being a child. Because of the things I had to face at a young age, I had to grow up fast. The only childhood memories I have are with my dad in Colorado. When that song came on, the familiarity was almost frightening. I could see my dad smoking with one hand on the wheel smiling at me while I sang along with Mick Jagger. I could almost smell his cologne and the flowers blooming on the mountains. I could feel the wind in my hair, and for the first time, I truly missed being a child. I'm missed all my chances for the simple freedoms that come with being young. I realize I have a lot of life left, but none of it will be as happy as those seven years with my dad. I miss you J.T., I'll see you when I see you. Love, Boo.

"Childhood living is easy to do,

The things you wanted, I bought them for you,

Graceless lady, You know who I am,

You know I can't let you , Slide through my hands,

Wild horses couldn't drag me away

Wild wild horses, couldn't drag me away"
